U-Centerit Jig
We developed the “U-Centerit” placement jig because, like many garment decorators, we struggled with consistent logo placement. We purchased and evaluated other placement aids but they were cumbersome and didn’t seem very accurate. The U-Centerit jig solved several common placement issues by providing a visual aid while simultaneously referencing typical garment location points. Embroiderers can use the jig to mark a garment for hooping. Heat transfer printers can use the jig to quickly and consistently place the transfer.
The U-Centerit jig is available for sale for $19.95 plus $5.00 shipping to anywhere in the continental USA. If you wish to purchase the U-Centerit Jig or if you want additional information, please use our safe and secure Contact Form and we will get back to you promptly.
The U-Centerit Jig was developed to make logo placement easy and consistent. It accomplishes this by providing a visual boxed area while simultaneously referencing several key garment indicators.
It is white coated hardboard that is laser etched and engraved for accuracy. It’s easy to read and the numbers read from the center point outward in 3 directions. Stress points are gusseted and hanging holes offer storage options.
This polo shirt is mounted on a heat press platen and the U-Centerit device is placed on top. Instantly you can visualize where the transfer will go and it’s relationship to the placket, the collar and the sleeve. The side of the jig is parallel with the placket and square with the grain of the fabric.
The hash marks on the sides of the “U” define the center of the jig. It doesn’t matter if the transfer is larger than the jig, simply place it on top. Since the “U” is open ended, the transfer can be held down with tape or your finger and the jig slid away leaving the transfer perfectly aligned.
Gone are the days of having to press a crease in a tee-shirt for measurements. Simply fold the shirt in two and place the jig in alignment with the collar seam and edge. This image is a perfect example of the design not being centered between the center of the shirt and the sleeve seam, yet it is 8″ below the collar seam and parallel to the center fold. Here you must make a decision as to where you want the decoration. In our experience, we prefer to go with the edge of the collar instead of centering between the middle of the shirt and the sleeve seam. Each decorator may adjust the placement from recommended guidelines based on how the finished product looks when worn.
I like to line up my embroidery hoop with the center and parallel to the horizontal line. Here a piece of tape is placed on the garment parallel to the jig with a center mark perpendicular to the edge.
The garment can be hooped using the tape to keep things nice and straight. The needle can be placed along the edge of the tape where the center mark is drawn for the perfect starting location. If your hoop is round, simply lay a straight edge across the hoop and use the brackets as a reference.
The U-Centerit jig works great for aligning decorations on shirt fronts and backs. Here the U-Centerit jig is placed so the center is 2″ below the collar edge and reasonably centered between the sleeve seams. As you can see, the neck hole is not perfectly centered between the sleeve seams and we have found that this happens quite often. The jig is a great visual aid as to where the actual decoration will land. Rather than get hung up on recommended placement, we suggest that you use your eye along with the jig’s measurement arms to find the best location.
Using the eagle print as an example, the top of the circle is exactly 2″ below the collar seam and centered on the horizontal measurement bar. Placement couldn’t be easier or more exact!
Quite often decorators need to place a name on the opposite side of a shirt in line with the logo. The “U-Centerit” jig is ideal for visualizing the placement of a name on this shirt in relation to the logo, the collar and the center of the shirt. It is incredibly easy to see exactly where the name will be placed using all these indicators at the same time!
