2018 Vectric USA User Group Meeting

Very Impressed! Those two words sum up my impression of the 2018 Vectric User Group Meeting held in Chicago. It was thoroughly enjoyable to meet the Vectric staff and others with whom I’ve met on the Vectric Forum the past few years. I went more for the “people” aspect than education but both were splendid. It was noted that the 2018 meeting was the largest ever held with more than 350 attendees. The meeting was held at the Embassy Suites Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago, a beautiful facility with very nice rooms. It was expensive by our standards but, what the heck, sometimes you gotta splurge.

Without a doubt, the most impressive statement made by the Vectric staff was that the company was never going to a monthly subscription program for their software and that the excellent support for their products would continue. They realize that their customers want this to continue and Vectric pledged it will remain so. I consider myself a typical Vectric customer and I was extremely pleased to hear them make this promise. Below you will find a few pictures from the conference many of which won’t mean diddly squat to anyone not familiar with Vectric software. Several are more personal than general interest photos but I hope you enjoy them anyway.

Meeting Room
The conference was held in a large meeting room at the Embassy Suites. More than 350 people attended in 2018. Do those people look thirsty?
Beer Delivery
Yes, the attendees were thirsty so they ordered beer. This is how the beer was delivered.
Brian Moran
Brian Moran is a co-founder of Vectric software. We met him and his beautiful wife Barb at the conference, both genuinely nice individuals. It was an honor to talk to Brian and let him know how much I like Vectric’s software and support.
Beki Jeremy
Beki Jeremy is the genius and wonderful voice on many of the Vectric training videos. Her presentations were excellent and filled with UK humor (you gotta be paying attention to catch it). It was a thrill to meet this lovely lady!
Stephanie Downing
Stephanie contacted me a couple of years ago when she started working for Vectric as their marketing manager. She asked me to participate in a case study testimonial for Vectric software which I immediately agreed to. If you visit Vectric’s website and poke around for awhile, you will find this case study (I guess that means I’m famous). Stephanie handles not only marketing, but also website management and event coordination and probably a bunch of other stuff that I don’t know about. It was great to meet her in person.
Todd Bailey
Todd Bailey is the creator of all the “Design and Make” 3D models that are so popular with CNC enthusiasts doing 3D work. Originally from Canada, Todd moved to the UK and is now part of Vectric. I own several pieces of Todd’s 3D models so it was a joy to meet him in person and attend his presentations at the conference.
Michael Tyler
Michael Tyler is well known and respected for his Vectric Project of the Month goodies. He designs both artistic and functional items and provides detailed instructions on how to finish the project. I have made several of Michael’s projects which are scattered among my blog articles (e.g. Dutch Clock and Recipe Box). It was an honor to shake this guy’s hand at the conference!
Tom Watson
Tom Watson is a gentleman I met because we both have the same brand of CNC machine. He is the owner of “Signs in Wood” and his products are widely sold in the United States. I’ve spoken with Tom a few times to discuss machine issues and he was always willing to help answer a few questions. I always thought he was a genuinely nice guy and meeting him face to face confirmed my opinion. I am proud to call him a friend.
